About John

I am a Health Informatics professional with 12 years’ experience working in the NHS. Previous technical roles have included clinical areas such as maternity, community mental health and nursing, operating theatres and hospital applications.

I currently work as an Application Design Architect at the NHS Wales Informatics Service as technical lead for the Welsh Information Solution for Diabetes Management. Specialist areas of knowledge include interoperability, clinical modelling, health informatics, electronic medical records, data visualisation, business analysis and system architecture. I have completed a Master’s Degree in Health Informatics at Swansea University, and continued professional development through IT Service Management (ITIL) qualifications. I have recently started a research Doctorate with University of Wales Trinity St Davids reading semantic interoperability.

My Master’s research provided an opportunity to publish a paper focusing on system usability and this research gave me a first-hand account of proving the benefits that correctly architected software can provide clinicians. I work with an anaesthetics informatics researchers affiliated with Cardiff University focused on emerging technologies.

I seemingly have opinions on lots of things and firmly believe that the only way to brew coffee is via the pour over method. Freeze dried coffee is a sub-human act of torture.
